Christian Literary Agent Writerful Books has worked with authors since 2012, and today that work includes literary representation for Christian fiction and Christian self-help writers preparing to query publishers. I read every submission myself, and I take on only the manuscripts I genuinely believe in, because when my name goes forward to a publisher, it carries my full endorsement, not a volume quota. What I Represent I represent two categories of work: Christian fiction (contemporary, historical, and inspirational storytelling that carries a genuine faith perspective) and Christian self-help (books grounded in Scripture and lived experience that offer real, practical guidance to readers navigating faith, family, recovery, or personal growth). I’m not currently representing children’s books, poetry, academic theology, or screenplays. If your manuscript falls outside fiction or self-help, I’d rather tell you honestly now than waste your time later. What I’m Looking For A strong query catches my attention with clarity and voice, not gimmicks. Beyond genre fit, I’m looking for three things in any manuscript I take on: a story or message that’s honest about difficulty rather than sanitised, writing that’s been genuinely worked on rather than a first draft sent out too early, and a sense that the author knows exactly who they’re writing for. I’ll turn down a technically competent manuscript if I don’t believe in what it’s saying, and I’ll take a chance on a rougher one if the conviction behind it is real and the craft is close. No Fees, Ever I never charge a reading fee, an evaluation fee, or any upfront cost to consider your manuscript. I also never make representation conditional on purchasing editorial services from Writerful Books or anyone else. This is standard practice among reputable literary agencies, and it’s a line I hold firmly, because any agent asking for money before a sale is made isn’t operating the way a literary agent should. If we do work together, I’m paid the standard industry commission once your book actually sells: 15% on domestic publishing deals, rising to 20 to 25% on foreign, translation, or film and TV rights where a co-agent is also involved in the sale. You’ll never see an invoice from me for representation itself. I only earn when you do. Agenting & Editing Are Kept Separate Writerful Books also offers Christian manuscript editing, and it’s important you understand how that relates to agenting here: the two services are entirely separate, and one is never a condition of the other. I won’t tell you that representation depends on hiring me as your editor, and if you do choose to work with Writerful Books’ editorial team first, it has no bearing on whether I’ll later choose to represent the finished manuscript. Some of the manuscripts I represent were never edited by Writerful Books at all, and that’s exactly as it should be. How to Query If you’d like me to consider your manuscript, send a query letter of no more than one page, including a brief, specific description of your book, its genre, its target readership, and a short note on your background as a writer. For self-help submissions, include a short outline of your platform, meaning any existing audience, ministry involvement, or public speaking experience relevant to the book’s subject. Please do not send unsolicited attachments. Paste the first few pages of your manuscript into the body of your email instead. I read every query personally, and I aim to respond within four to six weeks. If you haven’t heard back in that time, you can assume the project isn’t the right fit for me at this time, though I’ll always try to send a personal note where I can. One further note, in keeping with everything Writerful Books now stands for: I don’t consider query letters, proposals, or manuscript samples that have been generated or substantially written by AI. I’m looking for your voice, not a machine’s approximation of it. Why Work With a Faith-Driven Agent Publishing has changed considerably in recent years, and much of that change has been driven by AI tools capable of producing competent prose in seconds. What hasn’t changed, and what no tool can replace, is discernment: the ability to read a manuscript and recognise whether it’s honest, whether it’s well made, and whether it’s saying something true. That’s the standard I hold every submission to, as an editor and now as an agent, and it’s the reason Writerful Books exists in its current form. I’m not interested in building the largest client list in Christian publishing. I’m interested in representing a small number of writers whose work I can champion completely, from query to contract and beyond.
